Summer 2011 Vacation

Our trip with Granny and Pappy began with a long van ride to Panama City, FL. It was exhausting but well worth it! Aaron was a good boy. He pretty much kept busy watching TV. We stayed at my parent’s condo in Panama City. It was like home away from home!

The first day there, we took a boat ride and enjoyed tubing in the Bonita Bay. Everyone enjoyed their tube ride except me. I tried doing it, but I was terrified once in the water and quickly made my way up the ladder into the boat the rest of the trip. While boating, we saw dolphins and enjoyed the wonderful humid Florida breeze.

 







On Saturday, we went to a wedding reception for Rachel, who is Becca’s sister. That was fun. Aaron got to meet a lot of people Granny knew when she lived there. That evening, we went bowling. Besides having to take turns, Aaron did pretty well. He pulled the, “I can do it myself attitude.” Got to love three year olds.

On Sunday, besides church and some rest, Nathan, Aaron, and I drove around and looked at our old stomping grounds. Nathan’s old home has become a center for wildlife or something. It was covered with every tree and bush you can possibly grow in that area of Florida. The church Nathan grew up at, that we were married in, has had a few things done to it. Looks like the sanctuary has been remodeled a bit and it has had a new paint job. Nathan’s middle school looks rough. It is nothing like he remembers it. It is still one of the best in Panama City, so it can’t be doing too bad. My middle school has turned into a career center for high school students. It has been updated and has tripled in size. Our high school, where Nathan and I met, looks the same. They have added a few buildings. That evening, we went to the Inman’s and enjoyed a nice chicken dinner with good company. We learned how to play Chicken Foot with Dominoes.

Trinity Lutheran Church

On Monday, we went to Shipwreck Island Water Park. It was a blast. The weather was awesome and there was barely a crowd. We got to go on several rides more than just once. We even got to ride our favorite ride twice within 10 min. That’s how good the lines were. Aaron had fun in the wave pool as well as the two kiddy pools. This was probably the best day of our trip. That evening, Nathan went fishing on my parent’s dock. No luck catching any fish he could keep. I felt bad for him. He was really looking forward to that part of the trip.

On Tuesday, we went to the beach. It was Aaron’s first time. He enjoyed himself except for the salty water part. His eyes are very sensitive. He had a hard time swimming because he had to keep on wiping his eyes of the saltwater. We built sandcastles, played in the sand, and jumped in the waves.

On Wednesday, we went and saw Kung Fu Panda II. We liked the movie. About an hour into the movie Aaron was done. It was the most exciting part of the movie. I can only assume that is why he started getting hyper. It wasn’t too bad though. We kept him in the theater until the movie was over. That evening, we went roller skating. That was an interesting adventure. It has been a long time since I have done that. Aaron had fun and got the hang of it towards the end of our time.

Thursday was pack and clean day. We spent the day getting ready for our trip to Georgia to help Deric and Amy move into their new home. We were sad to leave Panama City but excited to see family.


Friday and Saturday were spent in Georgia. Dad and Nathan helped Amy and Deric move. Mom and I spent those two days entertaining Aaron. The first day we went swimming in Amy and Deric’s club house pool. On Saturday, we went to the bounce house for a few hours and then swimming again. Amy and Deric have a very nice home. Aaron enjoyed playing with Amy’s stuffed animals and organizing her books.

All good things must come to an end. On Sunday, we spent the day traveling back to Texas. As much as we enjoyed our trip we were all excited to get home. Once again, Aaron did pretty well with the ride home. There was a bit more complaining by everyone in the van but that was expected.
